In order to transfer caseflow management practices that have proven to increase court efficiency in Kosovo’s courts, JSSP has begun training at the Mitrovica Basic Court. Since 2016, USAID Kosovo’s Justice System Strengthening Program has been implementing caseflow management practices, such as early and enhanced case screening at Kosovo courts. In total, more the 6,800 cases have been screened by JSSP.

On February 13, a JSSP backlog reduction officer facilitated training on early screening at the Mitrovica Basic Court for one of thecourt’s professional associates. During the training, the professional associate was provided with a checklist on all the components of cases needed to be completed to be ready for review. Early case screeninghelps increase court efficiency by returning incomplete cases to parties to fill out, allowing judges to focus on cases that are ready for review. Future training on enhanced screening will also be held at the Mitrovica BC.
