The Basic Court of Mitrovica held the second meeting of the Court User Committee, where the topic “Communication between the court and users of its services” was discussed.
The organization of this meeting is supported by USAID’s Justice System Strengthening Program (USAID/JSSP) and facilitated by Democracy Plus (D+) in collaboration with the Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC).
The Court Users Committee serves as an open forum for dialogue between the court and its service users (citizens, lawyers, prosecutors, civil society organizations, etc) with the aim of improvingcourt servicesfor citizens and stakeholder representatives.
The meeting produced a handful of recommendations regarding access to information:
- Improving the information service within the court, to enable its users to be informed on various issues related to their cases, procedures and other necessary information. The appointment of an officer, whose main duty is to answer requests from the service users, has been mentioned as one of the options to address this challenge.
- Updating and improving the quality of information on the court’s official website in both official languages, especially documents, news and other important information for citizens and other parties interested.
- With the support of USAID/JSSP, every court in Kosovo has its own website. The Basic Court of Mitrovica in this case, should launch a promotion campaign to promote the website to citizens, lawyers, and other users and inform them about its content such as information about hearings, judgments, notifications, etc. This information should always be accessible and accurate.
On the other hand, representatives of the Basic Court of Mitrovica expressed their commitment to address such recommendations as soon as possible.
